Zelensky Says Negotiation Team to Head to UAE for Trilateral Talks

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Monday that his country’s negotiating team is traveling to the United Arab Emirates to participate in the second round of trilateral talks between Moscow, Kyiv, and Washington later this week.

In an evening video address, Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian delegation is coordinating closely with the US team “so that real decisions for the sake of peace can be scaled up,” as the Russia-Ukraine conflict approaches its fifth year. “Today, there was a meeting with our delegation – the guys are already en route. The meetings will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. And not only in a trilateral format, but we will also have our own bilateral format with the United States,” he said.

Zelenskyy noted that “issues to be agreed upon” remain, and that further work is required on substantive topics. Ukraine is reportedly prepared regarding security guarantees, while both Kyiv and Washington are actively coordinating on post-war recovery and development plans. He stressed the importance of continued US support for dialogue with Russia, warning that ongoing strikes and Russian aggression must not undermine potential progress.

The first round of trilateral talks took place in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24. Kyiv and Washington described those discussions as constructive, while Moscow said talks began positively but acknowledged “significant work ahead.”

Earlier Monday, Zelenskyy met with members of Ukraine’s negotiating team to approve frameworks for the talks and set specific tasks. Through social media, he emphasized that Ukraine is ready for real steps and expressed optimism about achieving a dignified and lasting peace.

He also highlighted that recent de-escalation measures, including an energy-related ceasefire agreed after US President Donald Trump asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt attacks for a week due to extreme cold, are helping to build public trust in the negotiation process and its potential outcomes.
